Are You Being Served?
It is now hard to believe that nearly 40 years have passed since this popular British sitcom first appeared on our TV screens. Despite that Meeching Amateur Dramatics (MAD) are convinced its following has never diminished and for that reason, they are proud to announce for its January 2012 seasonal production, and the first time in this area, the very funny stage adaptation of the show by its original creators, Jeremy Lloyd & David Croft.
Double innuendos are non-stop as the well-loved staff at Grace Brothers department store prepare first for a sale of German goods by showing their dexterity in Bavarian dancing donning lederhosen. They then depart en masse for a staff holiday at a one-star hotel in Spain. Will the tropical heat, Spanish crumpet, giant woof 'n' poofs and randy revolutionaries prove too much for our happy band? Not a bit of it! With the aid of a nun's habit, a bowler hat and Mrs Slocombe's Union Jack knickers they survive their holiday with everything intact but their modesty.
So if you are 'Free' come along to Meeching Hall, Fort Road, Newhaven at 7.45pm between Friday 20 to Saturday 28 January 2012, (excluding Sunday). Tickets are £8 on sale from Meeching Estate Agents, High Street, Newhaven. Tel. 01273 515566 or for further enquiries contact Tony 07912 965507.

Well Done All!
Well a lot of hard work went into another first for MAD, by that I mean our very own Music Hall. I can't stress enough how committed and energised all the cast were in putting on a cracking show so it still mystifies me why we are still not getting the Newhaven audiences we should be, despite being told a Music Hall would improve our audiences numbers.
Well back to the show, as Director I think we got it right, in the balance between songs, music, mono- logues, comedy skits, mime and poignant nostalgia. After all Music Hall is about all those things. Our Chairman Keith was on fine form and the confident comic delivery he gave could not have been bet- tered, the adrenalin filled cast also gave a superb delivery of all the well known songs, my favourite being the London and Military sections. Wrap the show together with Paul's fantastic orchestra play- ing the 'Glen Miller sound', add the realistic 'baby crying' and singing of our first timer, 12 year old Megan, together with great artistic back drops, you have a terrific evenings entertainment.
Finally I must mention Garry and Edd, who per- formed as Punch and Judy, although being excel- lent, palled into insignificance compared to their very own outstanding interpretation of ‘Little Green Idol’. Tears of laughter were streaming down the faces of the audience when they performed this masterpiece, worth the cost of the ticket alone and certainly a party piece for the future.
A reminder that our next production is 'Are You be- ing Served' with the opportunity of seeing all those well known characters from the TV series brought to life. It goes live 19 – 28 January 2012. Also still to be finalised a date for our next fund raising eve- ning before Christmas, but talking of Christmas the MAD Christmas meal will be on Friday 16 Decem- ber.
